San Francisco Hit-and-Run Car Accident Fatally Injures Elderly Man ...

Isaac Hudson, 84, was killed in a San Francisco car accident the morning of November 11, 2009, according to a Bay City News report. The fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Alemany Boulevard and Congdon Street near Highway 280. Hudson's car collided with another vehicle, but the three occupants of the other vehicle fled the scene of the accident on foot, witnesses to the accident told San Francisco police officials. Hudson was found inside his car and died at the scene. Police said two other parked cars were also struck as a result of the collision. However, no one else was injured.

This is a tragic car accident, and must surely be devastating to Isaac Hudson's family and friends. I offer my deepest condolences to them. They will be in my prayers.

San Francisco Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 51 fatalities and 3,632 injuries were reported as a result of dangerous car accidents in the city of San Francisco.

I sincerely hope that these three individuals who left the scene of this fatal car accident are apprehended and brought to justice. It is serious crime in the state of California to leave the scene of a car accident -- irrespective of whether or not the accident is the motorist's fault. Drivers are expected to stop and provide identification, contact and insurance information. According to California Vehicle Code section 20001: "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."

Hit-and-Run is a Serious Crime

Based on this news report it seems to me that the occupants of the other car may have been at fault or simply panicked and run away. However, panicking is not a good enough excuse to leave the scene of an accident. These individuals face felony hit-and-run charges if and when apprehended. I trust officials are also looking into whether alcohol or drugs were involved in this car accident. If that was the case, the at-fault party could also be looking at vehicular manslaughter charges.

Brown spokesman recorded 6 interviews

Still, spokesman Scott Gerber e-mailed one of the officials on Oct. 28 saying he planned to record a call with Chronicle political writer Carla Marinucci.

Chief Deputy Attorney General James Humes opened the e-mail before the secretly recorded conversation but "does not recall noting the recording reference at that time," according to a report completed Monday by Chief Assistant Attorney General Dane Gillette.

The Chronicle received the report, along with transcripts of the recorded interviews and other documents, as part of a Public Records Act request.

California Penal Code Section 632 prohibits the recording of private telephone conversations without consent, and the state is one of 12 that require notification of all parties prior to taping.

Gerber resigned last week after The Chronicle reported he admitted secretly taping the Oct. 28 interview and other conversations with reporters.

The report from Brown's office said Gerber recorded conversations with three reporters from the Associated Press and two with a Los Angeles Times reporter. Three phone interviews and one in-person interview were with Brown.
